TvHeadend 4.x on Raspberry pi

He everyone,

today I am gonna make a quick Setupguide for running TvHeadend Raspbian Linux.

There are several guides which are all good but here I want to tell you the
odds which I came along, while setting up my System.

First get yourself a suitable raspberry pi. I prefer the second model. Raspberry Pi 2.
It got 4 Usb Connectors, so you can attach up to 4 usb SAT Receiver if you like.

Pi2new
I am actual running two receivers, and I am not sure if the RP got satisfying power supply,
but it’s worth a shot. If power is a problem use an self powered usb-hub instead.

Here is the official link for buying and informations:

Raspberry Pi 2 Model B

If you have picked a source to buy, you must, and I say must because I wrecked one RP just buy shorten one of its circuits.
So you must buy a case!
I have a pretty simple one. Which comes cheap, and does the job, shielding the RP from electro static discharges.
Then choose a DVB-S/C/T receiver usb box. In may case I got two usb boxes.

DVBSKY S960 USB

Most of the brands provide you with the necessary drivers , but not all so it’s
wise to check the Linux compatibility first.

Summoned up Hardware you need:

Raspberry pi 2
Micro usb charger (simple cellphone mobile charger will do. the power consumption depends on how many usb devices you are running)
Micro SD Card (at least 8 GB)
Raspberry Pi2 Case
USB DVB-S2 Receiver Box (in my case DVBSky S960C USB Box)

Now put your RP into the case.
Attach the sdcard to your computer.
Download the Operating System. in my case Raspbian:

NOOBS

Just download the zip bundle and extract on your computer.
In the main dir of the extracted folder you will find a Installation how to.
Read it. Use the suggested SDCrad Formatter! Format it with the ‘Format Size Adjustment’ option activated!
Copy all of the files from the zip package to the root directory of the sdcard.

Connect the RP2 to a Monitor and a keyboard and power it up.
Follow the installation steps.

After that raspian is installed.
If you boot directly to the rapsbian Window-manager-UI. You can click on menu —> Preferences —-> raspiconfig
then activate the option: Boot to CLI.
Make sure that SSH is also enabled.

disconnect the RP2 from monitor and keyboard and connect it to usb receiver and network.
now Use Putty to connect to your RP2.

Howto set a static ip address and howto install usb DVBS boxes drivers is answerd in my blog. just switch over.

now we install tvheadend. therefore we must add the repostitory url to our sources.list file.
do as root

nano /etc/apt/sources.list

add the following entry for installing the newest unstable version on jessie raspbian

deb http://apt.tvheadend.org/unstable/ jessie main

for stable or release just change the repo url replace unstable with the choosen one.

now do as root

apt-get update

if there are errors relating to tvheadend not to be trusted, just ignore it.

then install with

apt-get install tvheadend

Congratulation tvheadend-server is successfully installed!!

Configuring tvheadend is in part2 of the tutorial. Just check out the link above.

🙂
hope this was helpful

How can i upgrade to 4.2.x?
